Beliefs

At Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship, we believe in the affirmation of faith and purpose.

This congregation:

1.      Is founded upon the faith that there is but one God, eternally existing in three Persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who in holy love creates, sustains, and orders all.

2.      Believes in the Bible as the inerrant Word of God, verbally inspired, the all-sufficient rule of faith and practice.  Maintains the New Testament as its only creed.  In the Holy Scriptures is recorded God’s search for all persons, climaxed in God’s redemptive act in and through Christ.  Through the Bible, God still speaks and continues to accomplish God’s redemptive purpose.

3.      Believes in the virgin birth, in the sinless perfection of Christ’s earthly life, in the bodily resurrection and ascension into heaven of Jesus Christ, in His present life there for us as High Priest and Advocate, and in His future return, which will be personal and imminent.

4.      Believes man was created in the image of God, that he disobeyed God and thereby incurred spiritual death, which is separation from God, and also physical death as a consequence; and that all the Adamic race are born in sin and are sinners by nature and practice.

5.      Believes that the gospel is the good news that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself.  This reconciliation was accomplished by Christ who died for our sins as a substitutionary sacrifice.  All who believe in Him are justified by His shed blood as atonement for our sins.

6.      Believes that the Holy Spirit is at work in the hearts and minds of people, creating and sustaining the Church through the gospel, giving guidance and comfort, and uniting believers with their Lord and with one another.

7.      Believes that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is the placing of every individual believer into the body of Christ.  All who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God.

8.      Holds that the Church is the body of Christ and is under the Lord’s mandate to be faithful in accepting and transmitting the gospel by word and deed.

9.      Considers that all members of the congregation, the body of believers, are responsible for the total ministry of the Church.

10.  Accepts the ministry of the Church to be the proclamation and fulfillment of the gospel for all people, both near and far, and to be the nurture of individual believers in the Christian faith and life.

11.  Believes that Christ and the principles set out in the New Testament are the believer’s rule of life and that the grace of God is sufficient for the maintenance of a godly walk.

12.  Believes in the bodily resurrection of the saved and unsaved, the everlasting blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting punishment of the lost
